The unlawful use of any controlled substances, as designated by Florida State Statutes, by an applicant shall be reviewed by IAU (Investigative Aide Unit) to determine if the applicant is considered to be of good moral character. This determination shall be made based on all relevant facts, including the type of controlled substance used, the date of the last use, the frequency of use, and the age of the applicant at the time of use. a. After the IAU reviews all relevant facts, an applicant shall either continue in the hiring process or if they fail to meet the department’s standards for past drug use, they will be classified as either Permanently Disqualified (DQ), which does not allow applicant to reapply for any position or Failed Background (FB) which allows an applicant to reapply as in 12 months. b. If any of the following are indicated it shall result in an automatic disqualification: (1). Any past use of crack, heroin, crystal meth, LSD, PCP, or any other hallucinogenic drug with similar characteristics to those mentioned. (2). Use of any illegal drugs within five years of the submission of an application (except Marijuana exceeding 10 times and CBD- both within the last 1 year) (3). Any use of illegal narcotics or abuse of prescription drugs after having been employed by a police/corrections or fire agency, in a police/corrections or fire capacity. (4). Past sale or delivery of any illegal drug as defined by Florida State Statutes. (5). Any more than isolated past experience with any use of amphetamines, barbiturates, inhalants, “club” or “designer” drugs such as GHB, Rohypnol, Ecstasy, Special K (Ketamine), etc., or hallucinogens such as such as LSD, PCP, Ice, Mescaline, Psilocybin (Mushrooms), etc., or abuse of any prescription drugs, and not within five years of application. (6). No use of any advertised CDB within the past year, meaning it includes if the CBD were sold as “legal.” (7). No history of diversion or violations of the Florida Prescription Monitoring Program also know as E-FORCE (Electronic- Florida Online Reporting of Controlled Substance Evaluation Program.) c. If any of the following are indicated, it will result in an automatic Failed Background; (1). Any more than experimental past use of cocaine, and not within five years of application. (2). Any more than experimental use of steroids, not prescribed by a doctor for a medical condition and not within five years of application.
